Habitats

What’s a habitat?

  1. Habitat: natural home or environment for plants and animals.
  2. The plants and animals that live together form a community.
  3. Animals need five things to survive:
    1. food
    2. water
    3. shelter
    4. air
    5. place to raise young
  4. If an animal cannot find one of these needs, they must relocate. When habitats become scarce (such as forests), animals risk becoming endangered.

  6. Niche: the smallest unit of the habitat a plant or animal occupies (physical space); also describes the plant or animal’s role.
